I was fortunate to catch a 70mm matinee at the BFI Southbank surrounded by a full house of completely silent British pensioners. I can’t remember the last time I felt so at peace.

As a married man, that handjob reunion scene was terrifying: her rubbing it out while telling him she is with him everywhere he goes. Then a single tear falls down his cheek. Fucking brutal but so funny.

Although Mel Gibson's accent bore no relation to a Scotsman, the other characters were Scots, not Irishmen!

Appreciate your take on this film and solidifying it in my to watch list.

Not included in your list but a worthy mention is Lawrence of Arabia. I sat for a screening and was awestruck by its ability to show the complexities of a character in a situation which is honestly still fucked to this day.
